Crumpets


Ingredients

  • 300g Wholemeal flour
  • 1 tbsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 7g Dried yeast
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar
  • 450ml Warm Water
Crumpets

Method

  1. Mix the yeast with the sugar and 75ml of the warm water, allowing it then to rest for around 10 minutes until it is frothy
  2. Stir the baking powder and salt into the flour and blend well
  3. Add the frothy yeast with the remaining water to the flour mix and beat until smooth
  4. Allow the mix to rise for 45 minutes
  5. Cook for 10-15 minutes in greased poaching rings in a frying pan over a hot hob, turning at least once
  6. Serve warm immediately, or toasted/grilled the next day

Cooking Temperature: Hot Hob

Cooking Time: 10-15 Minutes

Serves: 6

Keeps For: 3 days


Tips and Comments

  • Be careful not to spread the dough too thick or they will burn on the outside before cooking in the middle!
  • Go very well with Apple Spread, Lemon Curd or Strawberry Jam!
  • These can be made in advance and even frozen.
